Sleeping Peacefully

A digital illustration of two frogs standing upright and wearing historical clothing. The taller frog on the left stands very formally and wears a long black coat with epaulets while the shorter frog on the right wears a blue vest over a white shirt with puffy sleeves. Both wear ruffly cravats. The frog on the right has his vocal sac inflated as he speaks "croaa." There is an asterisk at the end of that which leads to a translator's note which reads: "There is no exact translation for the language used here, but a widely-accepted suggestion is as follows: "My dearest Captain, there is none other than you I would see tonight. The stars could burn out and onlyof your sweetest image, which I see happily before me now, would I mourn the sight. Would you permit me, dearest friend and companion, on this night of all nights before what may be our final morning, this dance?"

The Captain’s Last Dance

Maya is an artist working and living out of Vancouver, BC and thinking often about various animals. Their favourite frogs are White’s tree frogs (beautiful colour, fascinatingly squishy), Surinam toads (very flat, and indeed frogs), and rain frogs (round).
