Cradled in the murk:
algae, floating hearts, duckweeds, hyacinths
we’re weaving through the short stalks of our home’s
labyrinth.
Avoiding the figures that
plunge their un-webbed feet
and their presence that fungates when the nighttime retreats,
the warmth brings the little beings,
dirty hands and chuckling.
Unfortunately, it seems, they haven’t quite learned
how to croak
effectively.
They herd around us,
They blot out the sun,
In one fell swoop
they pluck us up from the pond –
